First Meeting of the Attica DMMO Special Tourism Committee

The First Meeting of the Attica DMMO successfully took place, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at the sustainable tourism development of Attica.


The Destination Management and Marketing Organization (DMMO) of the Region of Attica, which operates through the Development Organization “New Metropolitan Attica S.A.” serves as the scientific and technical support mechanism of the Region of Attica for the development and implementation of the destination's developmental and tourism policy, the execution of a strategic plan for sustainable tourism development and the destination’s overall management.

Having undertaken the implementation of a related project for the creation, operation and execution of sustainable tourism development actions for Attica, under the “Attica 2021–2027” Programme, the Attica DMMO proceeded with the implementation of the institutional framework by establishing and setting to work the Special Tourism Committee. The First Meeting of the Special Tourism Committee is a significant step toward the planning and implementation of the strategic plan of the Destination Management & Marketing Organization (DMMO), enhancing cooperation between the public and private sectors and ensuring the sustainable and long-term development of the region’s tourism product.

The Special Tourism Committee of the DMMO, as an integral institutional body, plays an important role in providing recommendations and supporting the Board of Directors of the Organization on issues related to tourism policy.

The Committee, which consists of seven (7) members with experience in the tourism sector, is responsible for advising on tourism development strategy, the planning and implementation of actions that contribute to achieving the strategic goals of promoting the unique features of the Greater Metropolitan Athens area, its coastline and the surrounding islands of Attica.

The first meeting of the Special Tourism Committee was held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at the offices of the Development Organization “New Metropolitan Attica S.A.”

The President of the Development Organization “New Metropolitan Attica S.A.,” Mr. Dimitris Fragakis, expressed his satisfaction with the establishment of the Committee and excitement at the prospect of multiple benefits the DMMO aims to bring to tourism in Attica.

All seven regular members of the Tourism Committee were present at the meeting, comprising Mr. Efstathios Grigoriadis, representative of the Regional Tourism Office of the Ministry of Tourism; Ms. Agni Christidou, General Director of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels; Mr. Evgenios Vassilikos, President of the Attica & Argosaronic Hotels Association; Mr. Nikolaos Kelaiditis, EET Member and President of HATTA; Mr. Antonios Steliatos, EET Member and President of the Association of Greek Tourism Boat Owners; Mr. Iosif Parsalis, EET Member and Head of Strategic Planning & Tourism Networking at the Attica DMMO; Ms. Alexia Panayiotopoulou, EET Member and Consultant in Sustainable Tourism Development – Management – Destination Promotion, as well as officials from the Destination Management and Marketing Organization of the Region of Attica.

During the session, the members were thoroughly briefed on the project funded by the “Attica 2021–2027” Programme and its strategic priorities, while the proposed actions for 2025 were discussed. All committee members welcomed the launch of the DMMO with enthusiasm, expressing their satisfaction with the start of the organization’s activities and the prospects it opens up for the tourism development of Attica. The strategic priorities and proposed actions received positive feedback, acknowledging their importance for the sustainable development of the region.

The meeting concluded with a discussion on the functioning of the Special Tourism Committee, during which both the procedures and the goals for the future were defined.
