A Three-Day Environmental Event with the support of the Region of Attica and “New Metropolitan Attica SA”, Attica Regional Development Organization
EcoFest 2021, a 3-day festival celebrating World Environment Day, held in Nerou Square at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre from 4th to 6th June, was a resounding success.
EcoFest 2021 was organized by the Hellenic Energy Economy Company, the Region of Attica and “New Metropolitan Attica SA”, Attica Regional Development Organization, and dedicated to sustainable development, green and smart cities as well as alternative transport.
The Regional Governor of the Region of Attica Mr G. Patoulis, opened the festival, which was attended by the Minister of Development & Investments, Adonis Georgiadis; the American Ambassador to Greece, Geoffrey Pyatt; the Under Secretary of Infrastructure and Transport, G. Kefalogiannis; the Under Secretary responsible for issues on Environmental Protection, G. Amyras; the Under Secretary of Education and Religious Matters, Z. Makri; the Secretary General of Energy and Mineral Resources, A. Sdoukou; the Secretary General of Social Solidarity and Poverty Eradication, G Stamatis and the Regional Deputy Chairperson of the Southern Sector, D. Nanou.
Adult and junior visitors had the opportunity to participate in more than 20 hands-on activities, view original exhibits and discover award-winning research innovations, in addition to being further informed about and sensitized to environmental issues in a most entertaining and edifying manner.
The Region of Attica and “New Metropolitan Attica SA”, Attica Regional Development Organization, have incorporated environment protection and sustainability into their basic design axes and made them the focus of many of their interventions. Within this framework, they will continue to support initiatives aimed at promoting “green” and sustainable development, combating climate change and ensuring continuous protection and viable management of the region’s rural and urban environment.
