Teleconference under the initiative of “New Metropolitan Attica SA” concerning Hadrian’s Aqueduct
On Thursday, 22nd July, based on an initiative of the Development Organization of the Region of Attica “New Metropolitan Attica SA”, a working teleconference was held with all the stakeholders to address the project of reconstruction, revival and showcasing of Hadrian’s Aqueduct. On the agenda were a review of current design plans, a presentation of work that is already physically underway and the coordination of the next steps.
Representatives of the Ministry of Culture & Sports; the Olympic Stadium (OAKA); Athens Water Supply & Sewerage Company (EYDAP) (including the Director of Strategy and Initiative, Mr. Georgios Sahinis); relevant municipalities of Athens (including Amarousion, Acharnes, Kifisia, Metamorfosi, Filothei-Psychico and Chalandri) the President of “New Metropolitan Attica SA”, Mr. Nikolaos Papageorgiou; Vice President, Mr. Petros Mamalakis; Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Iossif Parsalis; the Manager of Technical Services, Mr. Konstantinos Floros as well as various other executives and consultants of the Development Organization took part in the teleconference.
Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Iossif Parsalis, welcomed all the participants to the discussion and underlined the importance of close cooperation among all the stakeholders for such a key project. He stated that, within the framework of its overall mission as facilitator for regional development in the Region of Attica, “New Metropolitan Attica SA” were taking on the coordination of all parties involved in the design and formulation of a comprehensive plan for the reconstruction, revival and showcasing of Hadrian’s Aqueduct and was proud to report that work had already begun.
EYDAP Director of Strategy and Initiative, Mr. Georgios Sahinis, referred to the initial steps of the project for the reconstruction, revival and showcasing of Hadrian’s Aqueduct, preparatory groundwork already accomplished by EYDAP as well as the cooperation with the Region of Attica, its municipalities, the Ministry of Culture and other bodies which has led to the formulation and submission of the initial working plan describing the strategy and main aims of the project.
Subsequently, “New Metropolitan Attica SA” Technical Services Manager, Mr. Konstantinos Floros, presented the framework of the preparatory study the Development Organization is starting for the formulation of the strategy for the project and the specialist interventions it requires. He also referred to the process of collecting data and suggestions from the municipalities and other stakeholders and to the programming of visits starting at the end of August to municipalities through which Hadrian’s Aqueduct passes to guarantee the utmost clarity on the detail of specific interventions going forward.
The discussion continued with statements by representatives of the municipalities who broached more specific issues requiring assessment during the design phase.
The discussion was concluded by Mr. Iossif Parsalis, who summarized the proceedings and turned the focus to the next steps, calling upon the municipalities and all other stakeholders to submit their suggestions and maintain continuous, productive cooperation.
