Advancing the Maturity of the Northern Cycling Corridor

Implementation of sub-project 19, entitled "Provision of Advisory Services for Advancing the Maturity of the Northern Cycling Corridor", under the project "Support Studies for the Region of Attica on the Specialisation of Development Priorities and Specific Actions during the 2021–2027 Programming Period.".

New Metropolitan Attica S.A. is undertaking the actions required to complete the project preparation phase of the Northern Cycling Corridor. The contract focuses on supporting the finalisation of the corridor's design and completing the project's technical documentation, based on the available data and the specific requirements of each section of the proposed route.

The main objectives are to update and supplement the necessary technical information, assess traffic and operational conditions and develop the required guidance for establishing the exact course of the corridor, proposed intersections, signage and supporting infrastructure interventions.

Completing these activities will support the project's further technical and administrative preparation by collating and processing the information required to finalise the design of the Northern Cycling Corridor.

The work is organised into the following work streams:

Work Stream 1: Existing Conditions Analysis – Supporting Activities

Work Stream 2: Strategic Design Recommendations

Work Stream 3: Supporting Infrastructure Interventions

The Kifisia–Faliro Metropolitan Cycle Route is a sustainable mobility infrastructure project included in the Athens–Attica Regulatory Plan. Extending approximately 28 km, it runs largely parallel to Athens Metro Line 1 (ISAP/Green Line). The route comprises two sections: the southern corridor, from Faliro to Gazi, which has already been completed and is operational, and the northern corridor, from Kifisia to Gazi, which extends for approximately 17 km. The northern corridor connects the municipalities of Kifisia, Marousi, Iraklio, Nea Ionia, and Athens, creating a continuous cycling link between the northern suburbs and the city centre.

Sub-project 19, entitled "Provision of Advisory Services for Advancing the Maturity of the Northern Cycling Corridor", is being implemented under the project "Support Studies for the Region of Attica on the Specialisation of Development Priorities and Specific Actions during the 2021–2027 Programming Period" (OPS Code: 6006487). The project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the priority of strengthening the competitiveness and outward orientation of the regional economy through the "Attica 2021–2027" Programme.
