Development of a Public Health Monitoring Mechanism in the Region of Attica
Implementation of the project “Public Health Status Monitoring Mechanism in the Region of Attica”, carried out in collaboration with the Academy of Athens and funded by the Attica 2021–2027 Programme.
“New Metropolitan Attica S.A.” is implementing the project “Public Health Status Monitoring Mechanism in the Region of Attica”, aiming to establish a modern and integrated system for monitoring the factors that affect public health at regional and local level. Through the systematic collection, analysis and use of data, the initiative seeks to enable the early detection of risks and support evidence-based interventions to improve the quality of life of residents in Attica.
The project is implemented in cooperation with the Academy of Athens, with the objective of systematically monitoring and analysing factors that influence the health of the population. This collaboration aims to strengthen prevention, enable early risk management and improve quality of life, paying particular attention to population groups in vulnerable situations.
The Region of Attica is characterised by complex geography, including mountainous areas, the metropolitan basin and coastal zones, combined with a dense urban and semi-urban environment. Residents are exposed to airborne particles, bio-particles, allergens, degraded lighting conditions and environmental noise, all of which affect their daily lives and health. The area is also affected by particles of urban, peri-urban, marine or transboundary origin, such as Saharan dust, as well as bacteria, viruses and fungi.
The mechanism records behavioural, social and environmental factors that influence population health by utilising modern data collection and analysis methods. Through the combined processing of environmental and health data, it supports the early identification of risks and evidence-based decision-making for the protection of public health.
“New Metropolitan Attica S.A.” supports the implementation of the project in collaboration with the Academy of Athens, which is responsible for the scientific documentation and analysis of the relevant data. This cooperation contributes to the systematic monitoring of indicators affecting the health of the population in the Region of Attica.

The project titled “Public Health Status Monitoring Mechanism in the Region of Attica” (OPS Code 6022457) is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the Priority “Promoting regional social cohesion through strengthening mechanisms and infrastructure supporting employment, education, healthcare and socio-economic inclusion” of the Attica 2021–2027 Programme.
