Stakeholder Consultation Meeting on Attiko Alsos
On Tuesday, February 25, we held the third stakeholder meeting as part of the consultation on formulating the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy (SUDS) for Metropolitan Green Spaces. This particular meeting focused on Attiko Alsos.
The third stakeholder meeting was concluded on Tuesday, 25.02.2025, at the offices of New Metropolitan Attica S.A., as part of the consultation on the formulation of the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy (SUDS) for the Metropolitan Green Spaces of the Region of Attica.
The meeting focused on the needs and challenges faced by Attiko Alsos and aimed primarily at exchanging views and recording proposals regarding necessary interventions, projects and actions for the enhancement of one of Attica’s most important metropolitan green spaces orientated to sporting and other outdoor activities.
In the formulation of the proposed SUDS strategy for the Metropolitan Green Spaces under the jurisdiction of the Region of Attica, participants included stakeholders, whose more direct relationship with the park helps them to identify its particular needs and challenges, as well as those with useful data to contribute to a more evidence-based and comprehensively well-documented approach.
Participants in the meeting on Attiko Alsos included:
Mr. Konstantinos Zombos, Deputy Regional Governor of Central Athens; Mr. Georgios Kormas, CEO of New Metropolitan Attica S.A. and Mr. Konstantinos Floros, Director of Technical Works of New Metropolitan Attica S.A.; as well as Ms. Eleftheria (Rita) Moraitaki – Pikrou, Regional Councillor for Groves, Parks & Animal Health of the Region of Attica. Also present from the Region of Attica were Mr. Efthymios Kokmotos, Head of the Directorate of Parks and Groves, and Ms. Eleni Skevou, from the Directorate of Spatial Planning. The meeting was also attended by Ms. Dimitra Palaiologou, Environmentalist; Ms. Stavroula Mousiou, Engineer; Mr. Anastasios Kalpaxidis, Head of the Athens Forest Directorate of the Ministry of Environment and Energy (YPEN); Ms. Aimilia Athanasiou and Mr. Dimitris Fakitsas, Engineers of the Intermediate Managing Authority (IMA); Mr. Petros Charpalis, Forester and Agro-technical expert of the Municipality of Athens (Department of Green Spaces and Urban Fauna) and Mr. Nikos Pagkas, Forester–Environmentalist, PhD in Spatial Planning and manager of the Forest Management Plan for Attiko Alsos.
During the discussion, critical issues emerged concerning the functional and aesthetic enhancement of the park, as well as the prospects for establishing a unified management framework based on the principles of sustainable development. The proposals and conclusions drawn from the discussion will be utilized in the final strategy formulation process.
Within the framework of the Regional Program “Attica 2021–2027”, the Region of Attica and New Metropolitan Attica S.A. are shaping an integrated Sustainable Urban Development Strategy (SUDS) to enable the qualitative and functional upgrading of parks, driven by citizens’ needs and today’s sustainability challenges. They invite all interested parties to actively participate in the consultation by submitting their proposals and opinions, so that we can jointly shape the future of the Metropolitan Parks of Attica.
