Destination Management & Marketing Organization (DMMO) of the Region of Attica


DMOs – A globally recognized and widely implemented organizational model for applying modern policies and practices in the development, management, promotion and strategic positioning of Attica as a destination.


The Destination Management & Marketing Organization (DMMO) of the Region of Attica serves as a hub of knowledge, development, interconnection and transformation for the wider regional tourism ecosystem. New Metropolitan Attica S.A., in accordance with Law 4875/2021 and Decision No. 172/2022 of the Regional Council, is implementing the action for the operation of the DMMO of the Region of Attica, ensuring the engagement and cooperation of all those who co-shape the region’s tourism product.

The DMMO of the Region of Attica is expected to generate multiple benefits for the tourism sector and the Region itself, through the promotion of actions for the development and management of tourism products, the enhancement of cooperation between the various stakeholders in the tourism sector – indicatively through quality agreements, memoranda of understanding, thematic clusters, etc. – the provision of strategic information to support decision-making processes for the involved actors, as well as the promotion of sustainability interventions and the green and digital transformation of tourism products.

The DMMO aims to become a significant vehicle for public-private partnership, enabling more effective destination co-creation through modern and sustainable approaches, aligned with international trends, experiences and good practices. The purposes of the DMMO of Attica as a Hub for Connectivity, Development & Transformation, as set out in law, include:

  1. The creation, support and implementation of the developmental and tourism policy of the destination.
  2. The study and monitoring of the upgrading and modernization of infrastructures and public utility services.
  3. The formulation and implementation of a strategic plan for sustainable tourism development and destination management.
  4. The assurance of inclusive and holistic governance, representing all actors in the destination equally and across sectors.
  5. The development of studies aimed at creating standards to showcase the identity of the destination.
  6. The design and execution of a marketing and tourism promotion strategy, in line with contemporary requirements and using modern digital “tools”.
  7. The implementation of actions to adopt good practices of inclusion within the hospitality ecosystem of Attica.
  8. The development of research on key tourism issues, including market analysis, targeting of new markets (including accessible tourism), infrastructure project preparation and the implementation of social cohesion, digital convergence and sustainable development policies.
  9. The support for the creation and enhancement of quality tourism services and products, through the use of modern digital data collection and processing tools.
  10. The reorganization of traditional business structures within the destination, through the integration of innovation and targeted product development, and investment in the production and dissemination of knowledge to support this change.

The action “Destination Management Organization of the Region of Attica (DMO)” with Project Code ΟΠΣ 6007485 is funded by the Attica 2021–2027 Operational Programme, under the Priority Axis: “Enhancing the competitiveness and extroversion of the regional economy through the promotion of innovative and smart economic and digital transformation.” The project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

It is noted that the Development Organization "New Metropolitan Attica S.A.", having the technical expertise required for the operation of the DMMO, had conducted a relevant preparatory and maturity study for the establishment of the DMMO in 2022.
