Programmatic Agreement With The Municipality Of Verina For The Area Of Vergina
New Metropolitan Attica S.A. provides study maturation and technical support services to the Municipality of Veria.
The project “Integrated Urban Intervention in the Area of Vergina” constitutes a comprehensive intervention within the settlement of Vergina, aiming to introduce unified characteristics to the urban road network. These include uniformity in pavement forms and materials, the configuration of walkways and accompanying urban amenities (such as smart benches, waste bins and infokiosks), the use of suitable lighting fixtures and the planting of vegetation in keeping with the local environment and eco-system.
The proposed approach is aligned with the principles of sustainable mobility, following international trends in creating low-speed zones (<30 km/h) that respect and enhance the surrounding built and natural environment. New Metropolitan Attica S.A. has undertaken the development of all necessary preliminary and final technical studies, as well as support in securing the required permits and approvals. Specifically, the following activities are included:
- Traffic evaluation study of the road network, based on sustainable urban mobility principles and incorporating low-speed traffic schemes,
- Preparation of a traffic study file, supporting the relevance, thoroughness and compliance with applicable design regulations and standards,
- Topographic survey of the road network and designated areas for planned roundabouts,
- Bioclimatic urban redevelopment study for the road network and related urban equipment, alongside a geometric and functional design study for streets and intersections,
- Traffic signage and safety study for the road network and roundabouts,
- Stormwater runoff study,
- Electromechanical infrastructure study (including lighting, utility networks, smart systems, green irrigation, etc.),
- Planting and landscaping (phytotechnical) study,
- Preparation of Health and Safety Plan and File (HSP-HSF) and Tender Documents.
The resulting intervention will give the settlement of Vergina a coherent people-centred urban environment, through uniform infrastructure and street aesthetics.
Vergina is a site of historical significance and a cultural landmark of Northern Greece. Inhabited for centuries, it is characterized by a layered urban fabric that reflects multiple historical periods.
This intervention is expected to yield developmental benefits, fostering land-use diversification and offering a comprehensive visitor experience rooted in both heritage and contemporary urban design.
