Study on the Energy Needs of Attica
Implementation of Subproject 2, "Consulting Services for the Study of the Energy Needs of the Region of Attica", under the Action "Support Studies for the Region of Attica for the Elaboration of Development Priorities and Specific Measures during the 2021–2027 Programming Period" (OPS Code 5145430).
The Local Government Development Organization New Metropolitan Attica SA, in its role as scientific and technical advisor to the Region of Attica, undertakes the implementation of this study on behalf of the Region and its Special Managing Authority (EYDEP), under an Action financed by the Operational Programme “Attica 2014–2020” and the Priority Axis “Technical Assistance for Implementation (ERDF)”, co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
This study addresses the identification of the Region’s energy needs, the feasibility of using the Energy Communities tool to meet those needs, and the anticipated benefits in terms of resource savings and energy consumption reduction.
The study is structured into four sections:
- Documentation and analysis of the current state regarding energy needs in the Region of Attica.
- Justification of feasibility and preparatory steps for RES and Energy Communities.
- Specification of requirements for the use of RES and Energy Communities.
- Roadmap for the development and governance of Energy Communities.
The study will examine the feasibility of harnessing Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and the institution of energy communities to meet needs in an economically and environmentally efficient manner; the identification of the techno-economic requirements for the implementation of the above tools and the expected benefits in terms of resource savings and reduced energy consumption; and finally, a Roadmap will be developed for leveraging the institution of energy communities, consisting of a comprehensive operational plan for their development and operation, a financial plan, and the identification of the optimal governance model based on international and national legislation and practices.
Through this study, all necessary components will be highlighted to enable the Region of Attica to proceed with the transition of its energy system towards clean forms of energy, both in production and consumption, by utilizing Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and the institution of energy communities.
