Study on the Promotion of Electromobility
Implementation of Subproject 1, “Provision of consultancy support services for the promotion of electromobility in the Region of Attica,” under the Action “Support Studies for the Region of Attica for the Specialisation of Development Priorities and Specific Actions during the 2021–2027 Programming Period”. (OPS Code: 5145430)
The Local Government Development Organization “New Metropolitan Attica S.A.”, acting as scientific and technical advisor to the Region of Attica, is undertaking the implementation of this study on behalf of the Region of Attica and the Special Managing Authority of the Region of Attica (EYDEP), under the Action funded by the Operational Programme “Attica 2014–2020”, Priority Axis “Technical Assistance for Implementation (ERDF)”, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The study addresses the existing planning at both national and regional levels regarding the promotion of electromobility, the identification of appropriate locations for the development of a supra-local electric vehicle charging network, and the urban characteristics related to the development and promotion of electromobility. It is implemented by New Metropolitan Attica S.A. on behalf of the Region of Attica. The study focuses on the identification and mapping of locations that serve the objective of forming a supra-local charging network for electric vehicles, particularly in areas not already covered by municipal planning—such as temporary parking zones for private vehicles and taxis. It also explores the feasibility of installing charging stations at these sites using combined criteria including spatial coverage, parking space availability, traffic conditions, access to the electricity grid, and other relevant factors.
The study is structured into four main axes:
- Analysis of the current situation regarding electromobility penetration in the Region of Attica and related planning.
- Mapping of intervention points serving the formation of a supra-local electric vehicle charging network.
- Analysis of the characteristics of proposed sites and assessment of the feasibility of installing charging stations.
- Development of a roadmap for the pilot deployment of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) at a selected number of these points, including identification of financial, technical, licensing and other related requirements.
The preparation of the roadmap for pilot deployment at selected charging locations will be based on a detailed multi-criteria evaluation of sites suitable for the installation of related infrastructure. It will also include the definition of financial, technical and technological, regulatory and other requirements for pilot implementation, along with a preliminary description of the physical and financial scope of the project.
The study will provide all necessary data to shape a comprehensive framework for promoting electromobility and developing the required infrastructure in the Region of Attica. In doing so, it will contribute to the increased adoption of electric vehicles across transport activities, thereby improving the energy and environmental footprint of mobility within the Region.
